Glass, vinyl fire causes dark plume in central Ky.

A fire at a plant that crushes broken vehicle windshields for recycling has been brought under control in Lawrenceburg after sending a dark plume of smoke that could be seen in Lexington, Frankfort and other nearby communities.

No injuries were reported in the blaze Friday afternoon, and no evacuations were necessary. Dlubak Glass Co. Secretary Amanda Hillard said the company's nine employees were out for lunch when the fire started shortly after noon.

The fire involved a large pile of shredded glass and vinyl.  Firefighters took about two hours to bring the fire under control, and it briefly rekindled before being extinguished again.

The cause wasn't immediately determined, but Lawrenceburg Fire Department spokesman Robbie Hume said there was no reason to suspect foul play.
