Daviess Co. High School senior with special needs voted prom queen

Posted: Updated:

A Daviess County High School senior who has special needs was recently named prom queen.

Kelsey Dueker says she was shocked when she found out she was nominated and was really nervous on prom night. One of her teachers tells 14 News she doesn't think Kelsey's challenges are the only reason she won.

"Regardless of her challenges, Kelsey would have won prom queen either way because everyone knows Kelsey, Kelsey knows everyone and she's just Miss Popular so it wasn't a surprise that she won," says Amber Miller.

Not only was Kelsey elected prom queen, she also won the title of Miss Echoes, a yearbook award voted on by her peers in the senior class.
