Indiana hosting first state games in 2014

The annual River City Games for seniors are just around the corner, and this year Evansville got some exciting news.

Games will go on as planned for 2013, but next year Evansville will be hosting the Indiana State Games. Organizers over at SWIRCA & More expect athletes from all over the county. Indiana is an open state, so athletes from as far as Arizona and California can compete alongside Hoosiers.

"Our hope is to bring in 1,000 people," says Joelle Knight. "Although we are one of the first state games of the year. We might actually pull a lot more than that. Athletes want a lot of chances to qualify for nationals. If they don't get it here, they'll go to another state game. So being one of the first, we will probably see an influx of athletes."

The registration deadline for this years River City Games is May 10 and is open to tri-staters ages 50 and older.
