A nurse was arrested Wednesday on charges of driving under the influence and assault after police said she cussed out and spit at officers in a Taco Bell parking lot.
Murfreesboro police were called to the restaurant located on Memorial Boulevard at 1:30 a.m.
When they arrived, they found Jennifer Pitts, 34, passed out in her BMW sport-utility vehicle.
When an officer went to wake her up and ask her if they could call her mother, police said she was belligerent and spit on one of the officer's face and neck.
She then went on a tirade explaining who she was and what she planned to do.
"She actually told the [police] supervisor that she was a nurse practitioner and she wished the supervisor's mother was a patient of her's so she could kill the mother," said Murfreesboro police spokesman Kyle Evans.
Police said they put a spit guard on her to stop her from spitting. She faces four charges, including one for making threats against the officer and his family.
A police report indicated she is a nurse at Vanderbilt Medical Center, but a spokesperson for the hospital said Jennifer Pitts has never been an employee there.
A statement from Doctors Diet Program, said, in part:
"Our experience with Nurse Pitts has been that she has been a competent and caring health professional. However, our first commitment must be to our patients. Nurse Pitts has been suspended from seeing patients pending our internal investigation. We take allegations of alcohol abuse very seriously. We intend to follow all guidelines issued by the Tennessee Health Related Boards. We are recommending to Nurse Pitts that she be evaluated by a health professional and follow their recommendation if any. We hope that at some point Nurse Pitts can return to the Doctors Diet Program family."
