Following Monday's tragedy at La Salle High School, experts offered advice about explaining the situation to your children.

A student was taken to the hospital after shooting himself in a classroom at the school Monday morning. He was listed in critical condition.

Experts from Beech Acres Parenting Center say it's important to answer your child's questions. In addition, make sure they know you can't always explain why things happen.

"As a parent, you want to let them know your number one concern is their safety, and let them know that the school and community, that is their concern and goal as well," said Jaimi Cabrera, a mental health program manager.

If you or someone you know struggles with depression or suicidal thoughts, help is available by calling the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255).
