Golfers tee off in Henderson for a good cause

Posted: Updated:

Some golfers in Henderson spent the whole day helping out a good cause.

Henderson's Community Foundation for Excellence sponsored a golf marathon to raise money for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

17 people volunteered to play 100 holes and collected donations of $1,000 each to help reach the total of $17,000.

The Imagination Library benefits children across America by providing them with a book each month.

Henderson's Thelma Johnson Early Learning Center is helping by getting books into the hands of almost 1,000 kids from birth to age five.

At the Learning Center on Monday, kids also played some golf with the help of Curious George.

"Any opportunity we can have to raise awareness for literacy, to tie events to books such as Curious George Plays Mini-Golf, and just get kids excited about reading. They are loving every minute of it and they just think school's fun. That's what this is all about, learning but also in a fun way," says Rhea Isenberg, the library media specialist.

The students, along with Curious George, also paid a visit to the real golf course to show their support for Monday's golfers.
