Daviess Co. 5th graders take a step back in history

Posted: Updated:

Fifth graders in Daviess County went back in time on Friday for some history in the remaking.

Students at East View Elementary School were part of an American Revolution reenactment. They were able to experience what it was like for British and Patriot fighters in camps during the war.

Amanda Davis said that she and her co-workers believe that hands-on learning experiences like can have a major impact on the students.

"We feel as teachers that hands-on experience is the best way for kids to remember, and it's something that they'll take forever. It's how we started, where we're going, where we're from, and so this is just to authenticate the 1780s." Davis told 14 News.

Davis said the students took lots of time over the past few days to create their colonial costumes, weapons, and war camp journals.
