Some Plaza Park sixth-graders are helping a community in Zimbabwe.
While studying some of the third-world countries in class, the students realized there was a lack of clean water there. So they raised $5,600 to buy two filters for a water purifying system.
"Our students have always been very quick to step up when there's a need, even when it's just one of our own at the school," says Amanda Bussey. "They're very much interested in helping out and would learn about water-borne disease in science class and that's when they reached their point. They said this is too much and we need to do something."
The new water filters will go in a hospital to provide clean water for its doctors and patients.
