Whip Crackin' Rodeo ready at the Wilson Co. Fairgrounds

LEBANON, TN (WSMV) -

About 250 kids joined Lebanon Mayor Phillip Craighead for a preview Friday of the fourth annual charity Whip Crackin' Rodeo at the Wilson County Fairgrounds.

Each year, children with disabilities get the whole place to themselves so they can work on their motor skills, ride horses and watch an exhibition of the upcoming rodeo.

"There's definitely a lot of love going around. They are having a great time - lots and lots of smiles," said Michelle Hill, executive director of Empower Me Day Camp. "This is the place you want to come and feel good about just volunteering and helping out."

Hill is one of the original organizers of the event that has grown each year of its existence and said not only is it education, but it's just plain fun, too.

"They look forward to it every year. They talk about it all year. It's just one of those events that they really love," Craighead said.

The Whip Crackin' Rodeo and Outdoor Show opens with a rodeo Friday at 7 p.m. and continues Saturday with the outdoor activities beginning at 2 p.m. and rodeo at 7 p.m.
