Don't Waste Your Money: McDonald's to change ordering system

(Toledo News Now) -

Ever try to order a meal in McDonald's at a crowded lunch time? It can feel like you're trying to get into a concert. So the fast food giant is about to make some changes.

Sales are falling at McDonald's. Even rehabbing and adding latte machines hasn't brought in much new business. So McDonald's is about to change the way you order and pick up your food, for the first time in 40 years.

Have you noticed the change at many McDonald's the past couple of years? Gone is the single-lane drive-thru, along with the familiar red roof. New McDonald's have stone facades and two drive-thru lanes to make things faster.

Now, the interior is about to get a facelift. The free-for-all in front of the counters where you jockey for a spot will soon be replaced by a single line, where you pay first, then pick up your food.

But from the doesn't that stink file comes why it took so long to figure out that people hate unorganized fast food lines.

Prompting the change: Chipotle, which from 1999 to 2006 was owned by McDonald's. Chipotle's fast, casual approach has been luring diners for a decade.

In the coming months, look for McDonald's ordering system to look more like Chipotle.

Will a less chaotic ordering system boost sales at McDonald's? Perhaps. But even if it doesn't, it should make buying lunch a little more pleasant.

That way you don't waste your money.
