School nurse, cafeteria ladies split million-dollar lotto prize

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

It has been a great month for five lottery-winning employees at Rossview High School in Clarksville.

The school nurse and four cafeteria workers bought a few tickets together and are now splitting a $1.1 million prize.

"I have giggled for a week now," said lottery winner Shelly Strange.

There's more sizzle in the stroganoff, pizzazz in the pizza and magic in the macaroni and cheese - at least that's the upbeat feeling at the lunch line for the lucky winners who get $166,000 a piece.

"Actually, it's $166,459 and 60 cents," said lottery winner Krissie Compton.

All are still at work, where teriyaki was on the Wednesday menu. No one's quitting, but they all have plans for spending.

"First thing I thought about was buying my son a car because he's 17 and has been wanting a Mustang," Compton said.

"My husband's wanted a tractor for a couple years, so probably buy us a tractor," Strange said.

"A pole barn - a shed, a garage - down here in the South, they call it a pole barn," said lottery winner Terri Anderson, laughing.

The ladies started buying lottery tickets in August 2012. They'd play two times a week, and while it's not necessarily retirement money, it will make life easier.

Three of them work two jobs, and their short daily interactions with students help bring a smile to the faces they see.

"About three seconds with each student, so I've got to learn their names, see how they are, ask how their weekend is and get to know the kids in about three seconds and move them on," Anderson said.

Compton said it's time for her to get a new car, too. Her Chevy right now has about 207,000 miles on it, so she's thinking about buying a Honda Accord.
