Gibson County hopes to save thousands with new inmate garden

Posted: Updated:

Right across the street from the Gibson County Jail you'll notice a patch of land with some freshly planted crops. It's the new inmate garden.

More than 100 inmates will be caring for the garden which will be full of tomatoes, corn, cucumbers and other fruits and vegetables.

The idea is not new. Sergeant Bruce Vanover says Posey County has a similar one.

He says they don't know yet how much money the garden will save them, but it has saved Posey County about $8,000 on meal expenses.
