OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - A 24-hour online event is already off and running in Kentucky where you can help various charities throughout the state.
Today is "Kentucky Gives Day," and it's the first statewide online giving event in the commonwealth.
Technically, it already started at 11 p.m. Central Time, but it runs until 10:59 p.m. tonight.
Here's how it works.
All you have to do is log onto kygives.org.
Then you can search for a favorite charity, cause, or organization before deciding how much you'd like to donate.
But the site isn't just about giving.
Non-profit organizations also have the chance to share their stories.
380 charitable groups and organizations are listed on the site.
Several Owensboro-area charities are participating, including The Thumbs Up for Lane Goodwin Childhood Cancer Foundation, The Glenmary Sisters, and Girls Incorporated.
During specific times today, nonprofits can win some additional prizes based on most dollars raised in an hour or most unique donors.
The event is being coordinated by the Kentucky Nonprofit Network.
