Susan G. Komen gives back to the tune of $500,000+

New Tuesday night, more than half-a-million dollars awarded, to help local women in their fight against breast cancer.

Susan G. Komen's Evansville Tri-State affiliate awarded 19 grants during a banquet Tuesday night, totaling $516,000.

The money raised from the Race for the Cure and other events will go to programs promoting breast health education, screening mammograms, and other treatment initiatives.

Executive Director Sheila Seiler calls this her favorite night of the year.

"Today's a great day because today, I know that what we're going to be doing is giving that money out to places that are truly going to make a difference and we're going to find those breast cancers early enough to where they'll be treated," she said.

And mark you calendars, this year's Race for the Cure is set for September 28th in downtown Evansville.
