The "Best High School in Indiana" is in Evansville

Posted: Updated:

US News has released its latest list of Best High Schools in Indiana, and once again one local school is very high on the list.

Signature School in Evansville has been ranked number one in the list of state high schools, number 23 nationally, and as the sixth best charter school in America.

Signature School has about 325 students from the EVSC. It's high ranking is in part due to students consistently out performing state and national averages on college entrance exams.

All students are also expected to participate in community service hours.

President and executive director Jean Hitchcock says the Signature School operates very much as a college prep. Students have a lot of freedom but a lot of responsibility as well.

"Our philosophy is that all schools benefit from high expectations. We have the bar set high and it stays high. It is tremendously rewarding to see what students do what they can accomplish," Hitchcock said.
