April showers bring Plein Air Paint Out

NEW HARMONY, IN (WFIE) -

The 15th Annual Plein Air Paint Out kicked off on Thursday and is the first brush of spring in New Harmony.

April showers bring May flowers and in New Harmony, they also bring the Plein Air Paint Out.

A kickoff to Spring that attracts hundreds of artists to historic New Harmony.

The atmosphere brings in tri-staters but some, like John Lasaster, come all the way from Arkansas.

This even gave him his start in the business eight years ago.

"It was a hobby at the time but it's a career now," says Lasaster. "It's also a real quality art event too and it's been good exposure. When I first started I had not really done anything like this and so I've kind of grown into this business."

Over the weekend, Artists will pick out a spot and start painting.

A local gallery director says those images have actually helped put New Harmony on the map.

With all the visitors in town this weekend, businesses certainly benefit.
