Owensboro honors CASA volunteers

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

It's time for the ninth annual Justice Serves luncheon, which recognizes Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, volunteers.

The organization has offices on St. Ann Street in downtown Owensboro.

Today's luncheon honors not only CASA volunteers, but also community partners for their hard work and dedication to children.

It's taking place from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Owensboro Museum of Science and History.

Several awards will be handed out, including the CASA Advocate of the Year, CASA Board Member of the Year, and Social Worker of the Year.

Organizers say local law enforcement and officials will be there to serve the guests and recognize what they do for the community.

The national CASA association focuses on recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers who represent abused and neglected children inside and outside of the courtroom.

Tickets are $10, and you can get them by calling 270-683-2138.

They'll also be available at the door in case you aren't able to get one this morning before the luncheon.

Next Tuesday, CASA will participate in the National Crime Victims' Rights Week Rally at Smothers Park.

It will also offer free community child abuse head trauma training.

We'll give you more details about those events next week if you'd like to attend.
