Boston terror has local officials looking at security for Tri-State events

The terror in Boston has local officials looking at security for Tri-State events.

Friday night, the Ford Center will be hosting a Brit Floyd concert and the popular Guns and Hoses Boxing Tournament on Saturday.

Ford Center officials told 14 News that security this weekend will won't be any different than normal. They said everyone from part-time concessions to ushers, and actual security guards are trained to recognize anything suspicious.

Officials said 24 hour surveillance helps spot suspicious persons and activity.

Ford Center officials told 14 News that they don't usually search purses and backpacks, but for certain concerts like Kid Rock, they did take extra precautions.

Director Scott Schoenike said they look closely at what the event is and the type of crowd.

"Sometimes its even just profiling on exactly what time of crowd we're expecting. You'll see it on weekends. They defiantly come and have a good time. It's part of the event and boxing is a more high energy event, so you'll always see the crowd there," Schoenike said. "It is a unique event when you have all the police men here and all the fire men here. You have a high concentration of emergency services personnel here, so it's slightly different. Other than that, we'll treat it just like any other normal event."

Just in the nature of Guns and Hoses, there will be more law enforcement present, making the event even more secure.

Officials said the biggest problem they have is actually related to underage drinking, which is why the Indiana Excise Police are at many of the events.
