A two-year-old girl has been hospitalized after being mauled by a dog in Union County.
Officials say the girl suffered a severe laceration to her face Tuesday night and was taken to Union County Methodist Hospital.
Authorities say while on scene the dog attempted to attack first responders and had to be put down.
"They were just trying to stop him from being aggressive. The child's already been bit. So, we know the dog will bite. It was coming at them, it is the only reason they had to do that," Sheriff Mickey Arnold.
They say the pit bull belonged to 18-year-old Dakota Luellen. She's charged with harboring a vicious animal.
If convicted, Luellen could face one year in jail.
Arnold says the young girl is expected to be okay.
