Evansville police say one of the problems with the recent rash of shootings is the lack of victim cooperation.
Today's Coffee with a Cop event was held only a few blocks away from the most recent drive by shooting. Officers said most of the shootings have happened on the south side of town, and most of the victims and the suspects know each other.
Sergeant Jason Cullum, from the Evansville Police Department, said these crimes are so difficult to solve because people are withholding information due to their fear of retaliation.
"Folks are scared to say anything," said Sgt. Cullum. "We understand that but, what we hope is that, even if we don't get the initial cooperation, that maybe a couple of hours later, even the next day, somebody will contact us and help us get these guys off the streets."
The Evansville Police Department may increase the hours of the Coffee with a Cop event from 6 in the morning to 10 in the morning.
