Threat leads to cancellation of UE baseball game

Posted: Updated:

Evansville Police say they are investigating Twitter posts that were put online on Tuesday, one mentioning an athletic event at the University of Evansville.

A text alert was sent to students around 4:45 Tuesday afternoon saying a twitter feed indicated the threat, and that UE is working with the EPD.

UE just released a statement around 5:45 p.m., saying Tuesday's baseball game has been canceled.

In that statement, UE said, "The UE Athletics Twitter account received a nondescript threat today that is currently under investigation by the Evansville Police Department. The University of Evansville has canceled tonight's scheduled baseball game at Braun Stadium. In light of yesterday's tragic events in Boston, we are taking this extraordinary measure as our first priority is the safety and security of our students and guests. We will continue to work with the EPD to evaluate the situation."

EPD says another post contained statements about committing violence at an EPD facility.
