Castle High School undergoes massive mural makeover

NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) -

Castle High School's gym has been under renovation for the past several months and now has a mural to show their Knight pride.

Local artist Michael Smith spent nearly 500 perfecting the massive mural.

Smith has done several murals at schools throughout Warrick County, but he says this is his biggest.

He says he was meticulous about the details like using medieval chains to hang the exit signs and painting the metal supports to look like aged wood.

Students were a big part of the design process.

"Mr. Byers sent around pictures about ideas of stuff and then we got to decide what we wanted. I think everybody likes it a lot and I think it's really cool that we got to have this in our school," freshman Natalie Dewolfe said.

Smith owns a local tattoo business and said he enjoys working on both a large and very small scale.
