Tuesday marks application deadline for Memorial Scholarship

Posted: Updated:

It's the deadline for Apollo High School seniors to turn in their applications for the Brandon Scott Mullins Memorial Scholarship.

Mullins graduated from Apollo High School back in 2008, and the scholarship started last year.

Brandon's parents have donated $1,000 to the Foundation for Daviess County Public Schools so that two $500 scholarships can be awarded in memory of their son.

These will be awarded to Apollo High School seniors who show perseverance and leadership while overcoming major obstacles as they work toward their educational and career goals.

Applications must be returned to Apollo's guidance office.

A selection committee made up of Apollo teachers will choose the recipients.

The scholarships will be awarded at Apollo Awards Night on May 9th.

Specialist Brandon Scott Mullins was stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

He was killed on August 25th, 2011 in Afghanistan while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Mullins received many awards and medals, including the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and the Army Good Conduct Medal.
