BOSTON (WFSB) -

Families of victims in the Newtown school shooting were among those at Monday's race.

On Dec. 14, 20 children and six adults were shot and killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The 26th mile of the Boston Marathon, which is the final mile of the race, was dedicated to the victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy.

On Monday, the families were in an area right near the explosion, but there are no reports of any injuries to them.

The race had special meaning for them because it started with 26 seconds of silence for the 26 victims of the Sandy Hook shooting.

Nine racers from Newtown were running the race to raise money for "Newtown Strong," which provides scholarship money for relatives of the shooting victims.
