STRONGSVILLE, OH (WOIO) -

Who could forget the faces of Kerri and her sister Kayla and their mom Kate Allen.

Lynne Pursley, a childhood friend of Kate, was in Strongsville for a memorial held in their honor. "Having all these people around giving their love to someone they might have not even know is wonderful," said Lynne.

A year ago at a Cracker Barrel in Brooklyn, the family was celebrating  Kerri's 10th birthday when the trio was gunned down by their dad Kevin Allen, Kerri and Kate died that same day. Kayla initially survived the shooting.

"We were able to take her to our house and let her know that we were their her family and we still loved her," said Karl Jindra.

Karl Jindra says his niece died a month later,  but was surrounded by love and hope as  God took Kayla  home.

The same spirit felt there on Friday.  An emotional friend Emile Boyd misses her friend Kayla.

"He put her with her sister and her mom," said Emile Boyd.

The tears fell quickly as a memorial for the Allen's was revealed.  Tom Thompson was one of the organizers.  "I  felt putting a bench together where they can see Kerri, Kayla and their mom's picture and be in an environment that is kid friendly," said Tom.

A kid friendly place now has three beautiful faces brightening a  park.  A light forever in place for Karl's sister and his nieces where sadness fades away.

"I  really love that it's out here in front and you can't forget now," added Karl.
