UofL basketball teams to be Pegasus Parade Grand Marshals

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The University of Louisville men's and women's basketball teams will serve as Grand Marshals of the 2013 Republic Bank Kentucky Derby Festival Pegasus Parade.

The Kentucky Derby Festival invited both the NCAA men's national champions and the women's national runner up teams to be a part of this year's parade. KDF even launched a social media campaign to get them to lead off the parade as it travels down on Broadway.

The UofL marching band will be the opening act of the parade, which starts at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 2. KDF said the cheerleaders and pep squad will also be invited to take part.

The theme for the 2013 Republic Bank Kentucky Derby Festival Pegasus Parade is "Now, That's Entertainment!" The parade will feature nearly 100 units.

If you can't make it downtown to watch in person, be sure to tune to WAVE 3 for our live coverage.
