Atlas officials say they have hundreds of new job openings

There's good news Tuesday for semi truck drivers looking for work in the Tri-State.

Atlas Van Lines officials tell 14 News they have hundreds of new job openings. Atlas says it needs over 140 new drivers.

These drivers would be owner operators and would be paid $1.52-center per mile. They would be responsible for drop and hook trailer delivery.

Atlas says the lighter loads of their trailers will help drivers save on fuel, as well as wear and tear on their trucks. Atlas says schedules would be flexible. Drivers would be able to choose when they're home.

"Many of our competitors, we are about a tenth of the size of their direct fleet. So, for the driver, if you become an Atlas driver, you're not going to be lost in the shuffle. You're going to get more direct attention from our operations staff, from our recruiting staff. You're not just a number," said Aaron Chenoweth with Atlas.

Even more good news, drivers who sign on by may first will get a $5,000.
