Hopkins Co. Humane Society reports good news

The Hopkins County Humane Society is reporting record adoptions numbers and the lowest euthanasia rate they've seen in years.

Last month, the Hopkins County Humane Society adopted a new sheltering program. The board members announced on Wednesday that their four year average euthanasia rate of 68 percent is down to 25 percent.

Out of 196 animals taken in last month, 149 were adopted. Compared to last year at this time, the shelter is seeing two times as many adoptions.

"We're seeing numbers like we've never seen before. We're setting new records and with that excitement and our process change we're going to carry that over into our brand new shelter," said Jack Merrill with the humane society.

The Hopkins County Humane Society's next goal is to move into their brand new facility early this summer.
