There is still a slight risk for severe thunderstorms and even isolated tornadoes late tonight through the Thursday morning commute. You might be asking, where is the beef? The last few mornings...I have forecasted a late arrival beyond the computer models due to the surge of mild air...the warmest of the year to date. Quietly...temps will be in record high turf this afternoon...plowing into the 80s. The best chances for severe weather will be after 10:00 p.m. and before 4:00 a.m. on Thursday.
Historically, fronts will arrive late with surges of warm air in April...but not always. However, this could be a blessing because most of the severe weather potential will arrive after nightfall which means the atmosphere will have lost some of its energy. Sure...plenty of tornadoes have slammed our viewing area in the overnight/predawn hours.
However, a slower forward speed could cut back on damaging thunderstorms. With that said...that would increase chances for flash flooding and for the potential for 1 to 2 inches of rainfall.
