INDOT working to fix truck traffic in Mt. Vernon

Some drivers aren't happy with the truck traffic at the Port of Mt. Vernon. So now the Indiana Department of Transportation is doing something about it.

There's no problem going in the entrance, but there have been a lot of near misses as trucks try to go left out of the drive.

The mayor says he's taken a number of calls about that. So instead, the trucks are using nearby residential streets.

14 News spoke with a homeowner in that area on Tuesday. He says it's extra traffic that's not welcome.

"It can affect you all through the day. The biggest thing of course is the noise. In the summer time, they have a park over here that kids play at. Usually there's no parents over there with them, so it's always a chance of a kid running out in the street and the danger there," Bruce Smith said.

INDOT has agreed to fix the problem. The mayor says the solution will be a one-way exit road for westbound traffic only.
