KSP: Man arrested in Henderson after crashing stolen Jeep into tree

Kentucky State Police says a man has been arrested on multiple charges after leading officers on a chase in Henderson County.

Officials say around 7:50 A.M. officers with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement division of the Kentucky State Police were dispatched to the Robards community in reference to a suspicious person in the area of Heavenly Road.

Authorities say their preliminary investigation shows that 21-year-old Nelson T. Velasquez, of Robards, Kentucky had stolen a 1997 Blue Jeep from a residence on Heavenly Road and later crashed the Jeep into a tree. 

KSP says Velasquez then fled the scene of the collision on foot and began entering parked vehicles at three separate locations. They say Velasquez entered three separate residences before being located and arrested.

Authorities say at the time of his arrest, Velasquez was in possession of drug paraphernalia.

KSP says Velasquez was charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking of an Automobile, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence 1st Offense, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Criminal Trespassing 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and No Operators License.

Officials say Velasquez is lodged in the Henderson County Detention Center. The investigation in on going.
