PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A former Phoenix UPS driver has been found guilty of delivering drugs and drug money for a Mexican drug operation while on the job.

The office of U.S. Attorney John S. Leonardo said Robert Gene White, 45, of Chandler, was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute more than 1,000 kilograms of pot and less than 500 grams of cocaine, conspiracy to commit money laundering and three counts of transactional money laundering.

Police said White knowingly got packages from a drug trafficking organization from Mexico. Police said "backpackers" repackaged the pot into parcels and then shipped it through UPS. White delivered the drugs packages to customers in New York, Ohio and Virginia. In return, the drug cartel received parcels of money ranging from $20,000 to $30,000 from the buyers.

The U.S. Department of Justice said the suspects had buyers address returning money parcels to real addresses on White's delivery route, with made up business names and suite numbers. White would then redirect them to the drug trafficking organization, shipping 200 to 300 pounds of marijuana each week over a year and receiving as much as $50 for each pound of pot that went through his truck.

Sentencing is set for July 8.
