An Evansville woman is in jail on Saturday night after her car struck a 3-year-old boy in an accident on Friday evening.

Police say 24-year-old Brandi Nicole Rose-Beard was driving through the 1300 block of Dresden Street around 6:00 p.m. Friday when her car hit the child.

According to a police affidavit, Rose-Beard told officers the child "came out of nowhere." The affidavit goes on to say Brandi's own child was in the back seat and drug testing on Rose-Beard showed a high level of amphetamines.

She's charged with three counts of driving while impaired and one count of neglect of a dependent.

According to police, initial doctor's reports showed the 3-year-old may have a fractured sternum and was taken to the hospital.

Rose-Beard's child is in the custody of their grandparents.
