Pan Head Fred's Bar & Grill in Owensboro is the kind of place where neighbors meet for a bite to eat. It's a place for friends. It's also where Angela Hamilton and Lisa Schwoeppee work. They say they were devastated to hear the news of Sgt. Michael Cable's death in Afghanistan last week. "For somebody to come up and do that behind his back when he was trying to make the kids feel more safe and secure...It's just upsetting...very sad," said Lisa Schwoeppe an employee at Pan Head Fred's Bar & Grill.
The employees of Pan Head Fred's Bar & Grill decided to create a benefit for Sgt. Cable's family in order to show their support for the fallen soldier. "To give back to him for someone doing us a favor by fighting for our freedom and risking their life everyday for us to have our freedom over here," said Angela Hamilton, Bar Manager at Pan Head Fred's Bar & Grill.
The Daviess County Sheriff's Office says they are going to be at the benefit. Sgt. Kent Taul is a retired U.S. soldier from the army reserves. "Sgt. Cable is not just a soldier. He is a leader. He was a leader and he was doing something for us that we can never repay him for," said Sgt. Kent Taul.
Organizers say different businesses in the tri-state area have donated items for a silent auction. Organizers say there will be a poker run and they will be selling food at the benefit. All of the money raised will be given to Sgt. Michael Cable's family. "He's definitely given the ultimate sacrifice. It's the least we can do to give back," said Schwoeppe.
