Evansville man sentenced on Army bribery charges

A new development on Tuesday night in the case of an Evansville man accused of bribing contractors at a U.S. Army base in Kuwait.

The Justice Department says 41-year-old Wajdi Birjas has been sentenced to nearly three years in federal prison.

Birjas also agreed to forfeit $675, 000 to the government as part of his guilty plea in 2010.

Court documents say the former Defense Department contract employee paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to three officials at Camp Arifjan in exchange for a Kuwaiti contractor receiving defense contracts worth $1.7 million. In return, he received a share of the profits.
