Two men were arrested after Springfield officers found a loaded gun in their car, early Sunday morning.
Springfield police tell us Frank Woodfine, 24, of Springfield, and Chris Graham, 24, of Hampden, were arrested around 3 a.m.
According to police, officers Edwin Irizarry and Brendan Curran were on duty in downtown Springfield when they observed a large group of people causing a disturbance within a crowd.
Police tell us witnesses from the crowd pointed out Woodfine and Graham, and said they were armed with a gun. Just then, Irizarry and Curran saw the alleged suspects speed off in a silver Audi.
About 45 minutes later, Irizarry and Curran spotted the alleged suspects and chased the Audi in their cruiser, caught up to them on the Armory Street Rotary and called for back up.
Police say when Irizarry and Curran approached the vehicle, they saw a black ammunition magazine on the floor of the Audi and immediately arrested Woodfine and Graham before completing their search for weapons. When back-up officers arrived, they finished their search of the Audi, finding a loaded Bushmaster M-15 rifle along with two large feeding devices filled with more than 50 rounds of ammo.
Both Woodfine and Graham were held all of Sunday and are facing multiple charges including, possession of a large capacity firearm and possession of ammo without proper ID.
Woodfine and Graham are both scheduled to be arraigned in court Monday.
