An Owensboro church recognized Good Friday by holding a live way of the cross event in the streets of Owensboro. More than a hundred people from St Joseph & Paul Catholic Church walked along Clay Street and East Seventh Street this afternoon as part of the church's annual way of the cross procession. Church members followed the group reenacting Jesus' journey to calvary.
"We do it because it is a tradition in Latin America. It's a tradition that Hispanic Catholics mainly from Mexico and from other countries as well do on Good Friday," said Christopher Gutierrez, Director of Hispanic Ministry. Organizers say St Joseph & Paul Catholic Church put on the event because they are the only Catholic church in Daviess County that ministers to Hispanics.
