HPD says shooting involving three teens was accidental

Henderson Police say a shooting incident involving three teens was accidental.

HPD says it happened around 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the 3rd Street Boat Ramp.

Officials tell 14 News a male and female teen were inside a parked car.

They say another teen male came up to the car and one of the teens in the car showed the gun to teen outside the car.

Authorities say the gun accidentally went off, wounding the teen it was being shown to.

They say the third teen was also injured by debris from the discharge of the firearm.

Public Information Officer Jennifer Richmond says there was no criminal intent, that the teen did not mean for the gun to go off.

"It's a pretty day," says Richmond. "We've got parks nearby. So it could have been much worse than it was."

Residents say it's still concerning, especially in a popular downtown location.

Authorities say the injured teens were taken to Methodist Hospital and they are expected to make a full recovery.

The father of the teen boy injured in the shooting reached out to 14 News and informed us that his son was shot in the knee.

He had surgery after the shooting and is doing fine.

The girl injured in the shooting had a cut to her face and a few more on her body and she is doing just fine as well.
