OPD says man shot trying to get away from robber

Owensboro Police say they are looking for two suspects they say tried to rob a man and then shot him.

Officials say Wednesday night around 8:15 p.m., the Owensboro Police Department responded to 625 Poplar Street for a report of gunshots.

OPD says the initial investigation into the incident revealed that the homeowner, Herbie Adonas Buckner, was standing on his front porch when an unknown man approached him.

Buckner told police that the man was armed with a handgun and demanded money. When Buckner attempted to run from the suspect, he was shot once in the chest.

Police say the suspect was seen leaving the area with a second man in a grey Dodge Charger that had dark tinted windows.

Buckner was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital by a family member for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

If anyone has information related to this case, they are asked to contact the Owensboro Police Department at 270-687-8888, or leave an anonymous tip on the Crime Stoppers tip line at 270-687-8484.
