Tyrese Tanner posted her third-consecutive 20-point game and the Tigers followed her lead, as the Auburn women's basketball team defeated Tulane, 72-52, Wednesday at Auburn Arena to advance to the quarterfinals of the WNIT. Auburn improves to 19-14 with the win while Tulane falls to 24-9.

"I'm very proud of our young ladies," Auburn head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said. "Tulane's a very good team, and we knew that they were good. Obviously we had played them before, so we knew how good they were, and we knew how well they took care of the ball versus our press. I'm very proud of our young ladies for hanging in there, going through the runs that they made at us and just taking care of the ball and just making shots and making plays when we needed them."

Tanner led all scorers with 25 points and 11 rebounds in her first career double-double. She also added three steals, three blocks and two assists in the effort. Tra'cee Tanner added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Blanche Alverson tallied 10 points and five rebounds.

Tulane had trouble finding its shot from the field, shooting just 33.3 percent on the night. Danielle Blagg led with 11 points, while Tiffany Dale added 10.

Auburn stayed strong on the boards, out-rebounding the Green Wave 46-33 and picking up 19 second-chance points.

"We've put a big emphasis on using our abilities to get to the offensive glass," Alverson said. "If we can do that, we have an advantage over everybody because we're long. If we can do that and get easy put-backs, that just fuels us, and we can jump to our press."

Auburn awaits its next opponent and will face the winner of Drexel and Bowling Green Thursday night in Bowling Green, Ohio.
