Kentucky Congressman Ed Whitfield says he's ready to lobby the Department of Labor to prevent cuts to the student body at the Earle Clements Job Corp Center.
Whitfield visited the center on Wednesday and blamed mismanagement by the Department of Labor for not having enough funding to keep the status quo.
Whitfield says the centers provide the skills needed to get more young men and women into trades to support themselves and their families.
14 News talked to one welding student who says his education at Job Corps is a game changer.
"Not many people learn the trades right now. Lot of people trying to go to college, huge amount of people with college degrees and no college jobs. Nobody taking these trades right now. We need more people in the trades and Job Corps provides that," welding student, Asa Latham said.
