Indiana State Police has released the names of the Evansville Police officers involved in the shooting of a home invasion suspect during a police chase.
The chase ended around 5:00 Monday afternoon in Posey County after authorities tried to pull over a vehicle in Evansville. The suspect is now facing many charges, including those from a recent home invasion robbery.
Authorities say it all started as an attempted traffic stop around 4:30 p.m. in Evansville, and the suspect took off. There ended up being more than a dozen law enforcement cruisers where the chase ended at State Road 165 and Siebert Road near Poseyville.
Police say the multi-county chase ended after two officers fired three shots at 32-year old Keith Michael Reiter, one hitting him in the shoulder.
Indiana State Police says the officers who opened fire on Reiter are 32-year-old Officer Aaron Bourland, a 6 year EPD veteran and 45-year-old Officer Dave Burris, a 22 year veteran. The officers were put on three days of paid leave per department policy as Indiana State Police conducts its investigation.
They tell us two people were inside, and he allegedly held a gun to a man's head and demanded cash.
After the cash was handed over, police say Reiter then tied up the man and the 81-year-old woman up with duct tape.
Fast forward to Monday when police say the man called the home, demanded more money and setup a time and a place to meet.
Police say they were there when Reiter arrived and he failed to stop when authorities tried to pull him over, that's when the chase began that ended in Posey County.
Reiter is being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail after being treated for his injury. Authorities tell us no one else was hurt during the chase.
