Hundreds helped at Homeless Connect event at The Center

Hundreds of homeless or near homeless people in Vanderburgh County got a helping hand at Thursday morning's Homeless Connect event.

From haircuts to manicures, legal and resume help, there were more than 75 vendors at this year's event.

Organizers tell 14 News by the end of the day, they will probably assist around 800 people.

They say the face of homelessness has changed in recent years. They're seeing more and more families coming through.

14 News met Stephen Ralph.

Today, he's a volunteer, but two years ago the he came through as a client.

Stephen says he moved here from California and couldn't get on his feet.

"I wasn't able to find full time employment right off the bat. I was working a lot of temp jobs, and as a result I became homeless and had to stay at one of the homeless shelters here in the community," says Stephen.

Thursday all these organizations are all under one roof, but they are available all year round.
