Poseyville residents could see solution to flooding problems

Posted: Updated:

After a hard rain, it floods in parts of Poseyville, and residents say it's been a nagging problem for years. But now the town has a plan to fix it.

Poseyville now knows what's causing most of those drainage problems. What's going to be done to fix will happen mostly on South Sharp Street. That's where most residents are having problems.

"We've all talked about it and tried to do something about it," resident Harold Pearison said.

Pearison has done as much to fix the problem as he can, but on South Sharp Street, the water problem hasn't gone away. When there's lots of rain, flooding always follows.

"Our neighbors to the north of us, they have three little girls and when it floods they have to walk to the water to get to the school bus," Pearson said.

The initial engineering report is in and Town Council President Bruce Baker says it's the lack of storm sewers causing those problems. The solution is to add a bigger one.

"New storm sewer, the larger one, would go down probably just a little east of Sharp Street. And then it will have smaller sewers going off each way, about a block in certain areas to collect the storm water," Baker told 14 News.

The town is applying for grant funds to help pay for this project. They'll have that application in by the end of this week, and then they'll hear by August whether or not they get those federal funds.
