Dubois Co. ranks as 4th healthiest county in the state

Indiana State Health officials have named Dubois County the fourth healthiest county in the state this year.

Officials with Dubois County Health Department say the county also ranked fourth in the state last year, so they're pleased to be one of the healthiest counties again.

According to the Indiana State Department of Health, Gibson County is ranked 41st and Vanderburgh County is 72nd this year.  Number one is Hamilton County, just north of Indianapolis.

Administrative Director Donna Oeding with the Dubois County Health Department tells 14 News that many factors go into those rankings, such as morbidity rates, access to health care, even graduation rates.

Oeding says the department works closely with organizations in the community to help make sure Dubois County residents stay healthy.

"We are really excited about being fourth and it does show that we are doing some things right. But we also know that we still have areas that we need to address as well and we will continue to look at those areas and improve those rankings," Oeding said.
