NEWBURGH, IN (WFIE) -

A pit bull left outside for more than 18 hours when his owner's were taken to jail is back home.

Officials with Vom Blue Animal Rescue say Prince was happy to be reunited with his owner, Robin Montgomery.

Montgomery and two women were arrested Thursday morning for possession and manufacturing meth and Prince was left tied up to a tree stump.

Vom Blue gave him a dog house, food and water late that night.

When they checked on Prince Friday morning, he was gone. They found the dog roaming the neighborhood after breaking free from his chain.

Rescuers finally caught up with Prince and with the owner's permission, took him to Green Brier Animal Hospital. He stayed there until Monday when Montgomery was able to pick him up.

Jennifer Riggs who operates Vom Blue tells us Montgomery was extremely appreciative that so many people cared enough to take care of Prince.

They say he offered to pay for the boarding expenses, but officials say they couldn't accept the money because they were just doing what they knew was right.
