LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - An attorney representing one of the passengers who was with a man dropped off at Kosair Children's Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound tells WAVE 3 the shooting was an accident.

"It looks as though it's not an intentional shooting," attorney Artie McLaughlin said.

Christopher Keith, 22, was in the backseat when a gun went off.

"He's charged with tampering with physical evidence and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, not related to the shooting but to events before and afterward," said McLaughlin, who's representing Keith.

The bullet hit Christopher Jones, who died at Kosair after Keith and two other girls, including Abigail Frazier, dropped Jones off.  The group then left in what police described as a tan colored vehicle.

Police reports indicate Keith also fired the gun earlier and then disposed the weapon after the group took Jones to the hospital.

McLaughlin said it's a tragic outcome after a group of friends went out for the night. It's unclear why they tried to get rid of the gun after the shooting.

"They were good friends," said McLaughlin. "They were out that night socially, how long, I'm not certain. I don't anticipate my client being charged in any way either murder, or homicide nor do I expect anyone else in that car to be charged."

A fourth person, identified as a woman in her 20's, may also face charges in connection to the March 16 incident.
