Century Christian Church hosts prayer service - Tri-State News, Weather & Sports

Congregations gather to remember their home of faith

The congregation of First Christian Church came together Monday night with Century Christian Church to remember their home of faith.

They came somber and quiet with the loss of their church on their mind. Two congregations, united through silence, song, and scripture.

Mason Newman grew up attending First Christian Church and drove more than two hours from Lexington to be at Monday night's prayer service.

"It's the feeling that the spirit of God unites us and we know that. It was recognized here today. Although we mourn the loss of the building, the church is the spirit of God in our hearts," Newman said.

Century Christian Church Minister Andy Champbell says coming together with the people of First Christian Church for a prayer service was something they just had to do and that the fire may have destroyed the church, but not the people.

"The feeling is one of gratitude that the church doesn't die when the building dies, but at the same time there is a lot of grief," said Newman.

This Sunday both Century Christian Church and First Christian Church will be worshipping together at Century Christian Church.
