New events coming to Pioneer Village

As the Convention and Visitors Bureau in Owensboro heads into its busiest time of the year, the staff plans to roll out some new events they hope will continue to grow.

The CVB plans to hold the events at Pioneer Village in Yellow Creek Park, which is already home to Patriot Days.

They'll be part of a special series called Village at the Creek.

Right now, the list is still being finalized, but the CVB's goal is to hold one or two events there each month to help make the park a larger tourism destination for visitors and residents.

The first event scheduled to take place is called Bluegrass in the Village, where visitors can enjoy a barbecue dinner and some of Kentucky's most famous music.

Throughout the summer, Songwriters in the Village and a special Flag Day celebration will also be held.

The CVB hopes this will help introduce the park to new visitors, and Karen Porter with the CVB says it has a lot to offer.

"That park is big. It offers a lot of great activities for families and people to enjoy, so Pioneer Village is just one small part of Yellow Creek Park that we really want to extend to promote tourism," Porter said.

As of right now, those events are scheduled to start sometime in May. Some of the tentative events include one centered around gospel music, as well one that combines quilting and folk art.
