Mt. Vernon looking forward to spring in new park

In an effort to get more use out of their new facilities, Mt. Vernon's Parks and Recreation board has created a new committee.

The new amphitheater in Riverfront Park was dedicated around the new year, and with warmer weather approaching, Mt. Vernon is looking forward to their first season of events.

The Friends of the Parks committee was created in part to help promote and organize events at Riverfront Park. Whether it's a concert, music event or perhaps a play, the new group wants the community to get involved and utilize the space.

"It's going to be a fantastic service to the community to have that. They're going to be really effective at overseeing the park and making sure that it's doing what it's supposed to do there and be there for the community to enjoy," Parks and Rec Director, Michael Harshbarger said.

If you'd like to use this space for an event, contact the Parks and Recreation Department first, and they'll be able to hand it off to the committee for approval.
